Hi

You will also find his birth on freebmd.  A copy of his birth cert will give his mothers maiden name if you are unable to find his parents marriage

Hi Evelyn,

What was Thomas' occupation on his marriage cert, and was occupation given for his father or just 'deceased'  ?

This father Thomas was a Blast furnace worker and was still alive in 1901 census so don't think it can be the right one

Wonder if this could be the family in 1881 indexed under Fareday but clearly Fereday on image - birthplace Great Bridge is a couple of miles from Dudley

1881 RG11/2807 fol.100 p.5/6
No 37 Boats On Canal, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire
FEREDAY
Thomas  head  M  35  Boatman  Oldbury, Staffordshire
Emma   wife     M  29                 Wolverhampton   "
William  son           9                   "              "
Thomas  son         5                     Great Bridge      "
Lavina  dau            2                 Northampton Northamptonshire
Thomas  son        5 m              Wolverhampton  Staffordshire

odd to have 2 sons named Thomas but that's what it says! Perhaps a stepson?

If father Thomas was a boatman that could be why I'm struggling to find them in other census

Thomas Fereday married Emma Faulkes Dec Qu 1874 Daventry 3b 189 so that son William must be from a previous marriage?

You may need to get Thomas Daniel's birth cert to find his mother's name

I think we may have to start looking for boatmen.

Thomas + Alice are living with Alices parents in 1901
Wolverhampton.
Thomas (boatman) also A's father.

Usual to marry into other boat families,so perhaps Thomas'
father was a b/man too.

             Jackie.
ps.B/men can be buggers to track down!!( I certainly know)

Certainly looks like it if the 1881 I found is correct family
and I agree about the problems of looking for boatmen!!
