Looks a strong possibility for John Steel but it is an IGI  Patron Submission so best to check:

John Steill, b. 2 June 1828, bpt. 27 July 1828 Beith, Ayrshire

parents - John Steill and Margaret Gilmour

Having problems with finding Mary McPherson's bpt. or on the 1841

By 1871 the steel family are in High Hatton, Erskine:

563 Ed 2 Page 6

John Steel, 42, Landman, b. Beith, Ayr
Mary, 40, b. Old Monkland
Robert, 15, b. Glasgow
Margaret, 12, b. Glasgow
Mary, 11, b. Drymen
Jane, 8,  b. Drymen
Matthew, 6, b. Old Kilpatrick
James, 2, b. Houston

I think it might have to be a search for Mary's death cert to find her parents.
