Moses Nice married in Cambridge 1760
« on: Wednesday 17 October 07 08:16 BST (UK) »

Moses Nice married Elizabeth Lee in 1760 in Cambridge. I have found Elizabeth's baptism in Cambridge parish registers in 1736.  No Moses Nice baptised in Cambridge but through IGI found a Moses Nice baptised in Bury St Edmunds in 1730.  Elizabeth was buried in Cambridge in 1809 but have not found Moses.  Anybody connected with either Nice or Lee families?

Whilst "Moses Nice b c1735 Cambridge"may be on the IGI it's meaningless. All of the IGI entries relating to this marriage are member submissions  and should therefore be regarded with suspicion. Any entry "born c 1735" simply means that the submitter hadn't got a clue when and where he was born, and merely deducted 25 from the date of the marriage to arrive at a supposed birth date (it being a well known fact that ALL males marry at 25). Particularly suspicious is the fact that all of the entries bar one simply give "Cambridge" without referring to which of the various Cambridge parishes the marriage is alleged to have taken place in.

The marriage actually took place in Cambridge St Benedicts on 15 June 1760. Moses Nice of Cambridge Little St Marys and Elizabeth Lee of Cambridge St Benedicts, by licence (Phillimore's Marriage Index)

With such an uncommon name as Moses Nice there must be every chance that the 1730 baptism is the right one. Proving it is another matter entirely!
