Sarah PHILLIPS baptism ?Broomfield 1813-1818

Trying to find above. She married James Gillingham in Broomfield March1837, just before civil registration came in. Died aged 31 in 1844. Cannot find her on free reg. Witness at wedding was Cornelius Phillips, ?brother who also married in Broomfield shortly before her. I believe he was born in Dorset before moving to Somerset but Sarah born in county according to 1841 census HO 107/935/7/21/10 Spaxton Four Forks. age shown there as 25.

is cornelious the one married to ann in 1851 living in over stowey somerset born maiden newton dorset??
if so i see he has a daughter named rosetta.a stab in the dark i know but i see this baptism in frampton dorset right time frame with mother rosetta phillips
sarah phillips born 26th april 1814 bapt 22nd may 1814 frampton dorset parents thomas phillips and rosetta there is also a sister bapt same place
susannah 21st jan 1816 bapt 20th march 1816

Thanks for that; my only query is that the 1841 census shows Sarah as being born in county which would rule out Dorset. Cornelius married Ann Please in Broomfield ?1835/36 and I am sure he was a witness at Sarah's wedding in March 1837. The Broomfield register was not all that clear. I have written to someone in D & S fhs who has a special interest in the Phillips of Broomfield; if he comes up with the same thought as you I will disregard the 1841 census.

I have relooked at the 1841 census; Sarah Phillips not born in county; my copy was very feint and it is a n rather than a y. Looks as though you could well be right. I will still wait for the d & s fhs bod to come back to me but thanks for prompting me to re look at it.

Thanks so much for your suggestion as I have now found Sarah's baptism 1814 and that of her brother Cornelius 1809, both children of Thomas and Rosetta Phillips. Both born in Dorset, one at Frampton ,the other at Sherborne.

May I also please thank you? James Gillingham and Sarah Phillips are also direct ancestors of mine. I can't remember what search led me to this page, but I was confused as I read the beginning of the thread, as I definitely had Sarah Phillips not born in Somerset in the 1841 Census. Obviously there is a distant cousin of mine on this page (hello!!), but to go back another generation - AND find a Rosetta in my line (what a wonderful name...) has made this a stunning Sunday! Ta muchly. Am completely bowled over also by the fact that Cornelius was born in Sherborne (have I got that right, or was it Rosetta?) - I visited Sherborne in my youth, whilst visiting my (adoptive) Uncle. In fact he lived at Bay in Gillingham - and one wonders if that might be exactly where the Gillingham surname comes from...? Thanks anyway - loads to be excited about... (and I'm not that easily pleased...lol)
