Samuel Towle 1851 census
« on: Friday 29 February 08 22:03 GMT (UK) »

I'm pushing my luck this time!!!!!!
I'm looking for a Samuel and Elizabeth Towle in the 1851 census.
Samuel was born in Beeston about 1819. I have him in 1841 with wife Elizabeth and 1 month old son  Joseph living just across the county border in Sawley, he was working on the railway. In 1851 the son, Joseph was living with his grandparents in Beeston but there is no sign of the parents.

I suppose that the parents could be anywhere with Samuel working on the railway. Elizabeth had died before 1861 and  Samuel was back in Beeston married to Hannah Coltman.

In hope

right, so realistically, i would have thought he was still with elizabeth then in 51, unless she died before that.

There is  a Samuel (transcribed as "Samuel Sos") in 1851  age 31 b Nottinghamshire -he is a patient  described as married -in St Nicholas Nottingham
The image is very faint and difficult to read -but could read Samuel Tole
would someone take a look and see what they think
HO107 2133 586 50

but that doesn't find Elizabeth??

Thanks to both of you for your efforts. No wonder I couldn't find him. Interesting if it was him as I found his father John in Nottingham Hospital in 1841.

There are several Elizabeth Towle deaths in the 1841 - 1861 range. Those in Nottingham included
1) Sept 1847  Basford
2) March 1849 Shardlow
3) June 1854 Shardlow

Any of which could be her.

As far as I can see Samuel and Elizabeth only had the one child  born in 1841 in Sawley, and as I said he was with his grandparents in 1851.

Regards
