Does anyone in the Berkshire area have any knowledge of the Fox & Hounds Hotel, Bishopgate ,Old Windsor during the period 1910-1914? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Elizabeth,

You may have tracked this down by now, but there is an old pub - the Fox and Hounds, at Bishops Gate - one of the gates into  Windsor Great Park, which is in Old Windsor - sounds like it could be the same place??
I've just googled it, and it's now a restaurant. The current owners may have some info on the history.

Thanks Clare,
sorry for the delay in replying due to Holidays.
Looks a nice place.
Do you think they would stand me a drink if I called and said my Great Aunt and Uncle ran this place until he died in 1914 when they through Beccy out as ladies could not hold a Licence?

threw Beccy out as ladies could not hold a Licence?

Not so - ladies could hold a licence and many did.

Transfer of a licence to a publican's widow was commonplace, if only to hold the fort until the brewery found a new tenant.
