Me, aged 4, just starting out on The Dusty Trail
|
Hello
I am trying to trace the parents of an Ellen Bolger who was born in about 1833. Census info indicates she was born in Kilkenny.
It would appear she married in Ireland (location unknown) to Robert Stevens in about 1858 and had two sons in Ireland before moving to England to continue the family.
I have her surname from the birth certificate of the first child born in England, but without marriage details, which have so far proven illusive, I have no knowledge of her parentage.
Any help to move even a single generation back would be most appreciated
Thanks
Glen

If she married in Ireland only her father's name will be listed on the marriage certificate. Civil registration of Catholic marriages started 1864 (non-Catholic from 1845). For earlier records you need to look for church records (if they still exist).

Thanks
Should I just assume that there are no records available online anywhere, or other sources which can be searched, and close the Irish line of enquiry down until a visit can be made to churches in the area?

What information is available depends on several things. What religion were they? If R.C. then you will have to search for a church record of the marriage. If the 2 sons were born in Ireland before 1864 you will also need to check church records for their baptisms. To see if any church records still exist for the family you need to know their religion and where hey lived (parish if not actual townland) not just the county.

Hello
My ancestor Simon Bolger born 1835 in Graignemanagh, Kilkenny parents Stephen Bolger and Ellen Hennessy married 1831. had a sister named Ellen Bolger and the date is 1840 of Ellen's baptism. They are R.C and I have more information if you want to email me. They also had a brother John born 1832 and Patrick who left Ireland and lived in Islington, Liverpool. They where boot/shoe makers. I have traced the family in Liverpool if you want more information. The names in order in this family are John, Patrick, Simon, Ellen, Bridget, Lawrence, Mary, James
Kindest regards Kristina
