Hello
I am trying to locate a parish record for a birth or baptism/Christening, in Windsor for an Edward Woolhouse, parents, Richard and Ann Woolhouse , 1847 - 1850 ,place given only as 'Windsor, Berkshire' I have tried LDS films for Old Windsor without result, there is apparently a 'New Windsor' as well, does anyone have access to births for this area ? Any suggestions ? Nothing on the G.R.O. indexes.

New Windsor is what we now know as Windsor, the place with the castle. Old Windsor is a couple of miles down stream still on the south bank of the Thames.

I am not sure about the dates. However the original town of Windsor was to the east of the castle and has for a long while been known as Old Windsor. The much larger town with its two stations grew up around the castle entrance and then spread to the west. It was originally known as New Windsor but now is just Windsor to most people. It is separated from Old Windsor by the Great Park which spreads south from the castle and also forms the southern boundary of Windsor. Windsor is contiguous with but separated from Eton by the river Thames.
Besides the three parishes mentioned above there is one other set of records which you should not ignore these are the registers of St Georges Chapel at the castle. these contain the baptisms etc. of many people employed by or associated with the castle. I know Berks FHS has a copy of these but not where the others are located. I would guess that like many other Brkshire records they can only be found at the Berkshire Record Office.

I think Ann is Richard's second wife - is that right?
If so, could the sons Richard and Edward, be registered under her maiden name or previous married name?

I have looked through the Windsor Castle records on LDS film, they are interesting but mostly royalty , not so many ordinry folk 
Oddly , there is a record on the IGI for an 'Aris' Woolhouse, male , dated 1850 , Windsor Castle , born 1837, no other info given , couldn't find any such record on the Castle film though. ( or on the GRO index ) Would be interesting to find out who this was!

There is a 3 year old Avice (female) in the household of Richard and Dinah Woolhouse in the 1841 census. Also 3 older children Amelia 10, Emily 5 and Henry 6.
Deaths Dec 1842
Woolhouse Dinah Eton 6 235
By 1851 Richard seems to be married to Ann. Emily and Henry are in the household as well as Richard and Edward. Richard is a Wheelwright.

many thanks for the reply, Ann is his second wife , but was 10 years younger , the two sons, Richard and Edward were born to Ann and Richard after his second marriage in 1843. Edward has been the most elusive ! I have a birth record for Richard , born in 1844. ( Richard John ) Edward also used the name Frederick just to make things more difficult  He is my gt gt grandfather. He died in 1877 , at South Place, Ridgeway,in Wimbledon aged 28. I have never been able to find where he was buried , or any birth or christening record. I have his marriage certificate from 1869 and a death certificate in both of which he is Frederick, but on christening records for his daughters he is Edward.

How confusing 
Have you checked whether there is a registration for a "male" Woolhouse?
Where was Richard John registered and where did Ann and Richard marry?

Hello Barbara
Richard Woolhouse married Ann White at Langley Marish March 6th 1843, he was 30 , she was aged 20 . His first wife, Dinah, died in 1842.
Richard John their son, was baptised 'in the Parish of Eton' Dec 15th 1844.
I have checked the same parish record for Edward but no show. His place of birth in a census was given as Windsor Berkshire.
