COVENTRY from Port Glasgow
« on: Sunday 02 March 08 13:44 GMT (UK) »

Wondering if their are still descendants of William Coventry and Maria White,  living in the area.
William and Maria were my gt gt gt grandparents.
They married in Glasgow in 1847.
They had around 5 children, including son William, who was my gt gt grandfather. He married Mary Pender, in 1876, at West Marystone, Old Monkland.
Other siblings of William are Ann(Agnes), James, Elizabeth, and Maria.
I have made contact with another relative in South Africa, who is a descendant of Maria!

Would be great to find some more rellies still living locally.

Regards

Gail

PM me if you want more details about the family.

Are there any Coventry's about in the Port Glasgow area?

I would appreciate hearing from anyone with a Coventry in their tree. Ideally decended from WILLIAM COVENTRY, and MARIA WHITE.

have you tried the phone book?

There are 6 entries that come up if you simply search for Coventry  Port Glasgow.

2 in Port Glasgow, 1 Greenock, 1 Gourock, 1 Motherwell and 1 Coatbridge - all fit in with the areas the family have lived in.

If you extend the search and type in say, Lanarkshire, it gives 35 entries in various counties, not just the 6 above.

Afew letters / phone calls might come up trumps.

Hello Gail,

Not a descendant - but also trying to raise some interest in the thread...

A search on the IGI - 1840 to 1880- only brings up 4 children to the couple - all 'extracted'.  I take it you have the census records or birth entries for your William and Ann/Agnes?

James Coventry b 10 Nov 1856, Calton, Glasgow, Lanark
James Coventry b.  01 Apr 1859, Port Glasgow, Renfrew
Elizabeth b.  11 Feb 1862, Port Glasgow, Renfrew
Maria Coventry b.  25 Mar 1865, Port Glasgow, Renfrew

Thankyou to Daval and Piglet for your replies.

I looked at your link , Daval, and will try the Glasgow area numbers.
The other numbers are for direct family members.

Best of luck Gail, Hope you get a result.

It seems to me to always be a bit harder finding living rellies.  Once you find them, how do you make contact? Rhetorical question!  Undecided

Hello Lorraine.

Thankyou for taking the time to reply. If I am correct, James Coventry was born 1st April 1859 at King Street, Port Glasgow.

He then married Margaret Young Nixon, on 13th October 1882. Margaret was born September 1861, at (what I think says)14 Kelvin Row, Glasgow.

That is all a I have so far on James Coventry. Is this your James?

Do let me know.

Regards
