Hi Fionnghal,

If you have the time I wouldn't mind the other Hastie MI's. I have a 4g Uncle who married and Ellen Ormiston so there is a possibility of a relationship there and we're certainly in the right area.

Thanks for my gg grandparents inscription. I have a photo of William and his daughter Helen feeding their hens at Ormiston Mill, a real treasure for me Smiley

Hi Terry,

Found death certificate of ROBERT EMONDS of EARLSTON, whom I think is brother of WILLIAM EMONDS, X3 grandfather.

Death certificates of both have father as THOMAS EMONDS and occupation as general labourer. Mother on both with m.s. (does this stand for maiden surname?) as FRASER.

THOMAS EMONDS married AGNES FRAZER, 1811 @ MELROSE, guess s or z could be used! Mother is AGNES on WILLIAM,s death certificate but JANET on ROBERT's death certificate ? Undecided

Too much of a coincidence but have never heard of Agnes as another name for Janet, unless she had a middle name? Undecided

Kind Regards
Frank

Hi Frank,

I would say there is a great chance they are brothers. I have quite a few death certificates where I know for definate the person is who I am looking for if you know what I mean and the mothers forename is wrong. Look at who registered the death, was it a grandchild or some such distant relative or even a friend, sometimes they didn't know what there grandmothers name was etc. I have a Hastie one where the son registered his fathers death and said his grandparents were Thomas Hastie/Elizabeth Galbraith. They were in fact William Hastie/Elizabeth Galbraith. His grandfather William was dead before he was born and he obviously didn't know his grandfathers first name.  Shocked

So if you are in the correct area I think you will have a match. Smiley

Terry

Yes Fraz(s)er would just be the same, I have 3 different spelling for the name Hastie in just one family back in the early 1800's so don't discount for that reason or for the fact the mothers forename is wrong.

Added

I went onto the Borders Family History Society web page and they have a surname search for all the MI's that they have transcribed so far. I tried your 5 L surnames 3 of them had no MI's

LECK had - Kelso 1,  Morebattle 2,  Sprouston/Lempitlaw 1.
Lake had -  Ancrum and Longnewton 1. Certainly all in the right areas.
If you're lucky maybe someone will have these MI books.

Thank you very much Beckey.  Smiley  I had posted a Kelso/Morebattle/Ancrum request to see if anyone had those and the response that came back said, no Leck in Kelso, which was a bit strange but i came to the conclusion that perhaps there had been a transcription error bringing up a mistake on the source that Terry used.  However, it was obviously correct Smiley

Thanks for your trouble.  If no-one comes up with the Morebattle MIs, I may get a copy myself.  Although to date i only have the Leck name that may be residing there, down the road a bit, i may come on some more, so it'd be handy and also help out folk here.

I have the Sprouston/Lempitlaw MIs if you have any folk who took up lodgings there  Cheesy  just let me know
