Hello
Just off the IGI - www.familysearch.org. It appears that William Manson was a popular name at the time in Caithness. Cannot find a marriage (on the IGI), for William and Anne Gair
However - from the info you gave.
Born to William/Wm/Will Manson and Ann/Anne/Anny Gair/Gare/Gear
There were: 1. George Manson ch. 13 Mar 1804, Bower, Caithness (amended - typed in date from name above on print out - thanks Ambly). 2. William Manson b. 02 Dec 1805 ch. 04 Jan 1806, Bower Caithness 3. Isabel Manson b. 02 Mar 1808, ch. 07 Mar 1808 Bower, Caithness. 4. Margaret Manson b. 09 Nov 1810 ch. 16 Nov 1810, Bower, Caithness 5. James Manson. b.21 Aug 1813 ch. 10 Sep 1813, Bower, Caithness 6. Alexander Manson .04 Dec 1815, ch. 15 Dec 1815, Bower, Caithness 7. Janet Manson b.31 Aug 1818 ch 19 Sep 1818 Bower, Caithnes 8. Helen Manson b. 06 Jan 1822. ch. 26 Jan 1822 Bower, Caithness
So, it looks as though there were 8 children. I can't find a William who would be 11 in the 1841 census to this couple - perhaps a grandchild? Or perhaps I haven't looked hard enough - over to others ....... Regards, Steve :O)

Hi
There was a 9th child (who was not on the 1841 Census) John MANSON b Jul 1829, chr 6 Aug 1829 to William MANSON and Ann GEAR
I wonder if this John was actually your William who is age 11 in 1841 - right sort of time frame (and your William was named after a first born of the same name who died)......maybe he was William John, or John WIlliam, or they changed their minds after he was christened, perhaps becasue of the death of the first William............
George - was actually - chr 13 Mar 1804 Bower - possibly making him the first born (and therefore to keep in mind for a naming pattern in the children)
Cheers AMBLY
