A while ago I had a thread going on George W Rix -
(George W Rix - Wisbeach/Cromer/Erpingham- COMPLETED « on: Friday 03 August 07 10:20 BST (UK) »)
We went off on a bit of a tangent and found out lots of goodies about his wife, Alice Cooke, but were stuck on George!
I have decided to have another go at him and am coming back for more help, please
George was born in 1866 in Wisbeach, Norfolk. I have him in the 1891 census RG12/434 - 109 living in Wandsworth with future wife Alice Cook (married in April 1892). His place of birth is given as County Clare, but this wrong.
In 1901 he is in Battersea, with wife Alice and a couple of children, Ethel and Kathleen (my grandmother). They live at 63 Grant Road and he is a platelayer. RG13/453 - 150
This might all ring a bell with those who helped me on the other thread.
I have looked and looked for George in earlier censuses, but can't find him. I now know that his father was William Rix, a labourer, who lived at 7 Swaffrid/Swaffild(?) Road at the time of George's wedding in 1892. I don't know George's mother's name at all. One of the witnesses is Elizabeth Rix - I wondered whether this could be the mother.....
I would be very grateful if someone could find George in 1871/81 and/or father William Rix, and maybe William's date/place of birth and parents
I am very sorry if I have repeated myself from the other thread (I've read it through again and again to try and avoid this!) but I am definitely in a MUDDLE
Many thanks for any help
Tilly

Hello Sue
Thank you for your reply. I was having another hunt when your message came through and I had just seen that census, too, and wondered whether it could be the right one.... the problem is that I don't know the names of any brothers and sisters.....but it is certainly a possibility.
I might have found George in 1881 - RG11/2004 - 46. Staying with Arthur and Elizabeth Ward - Arthur is a platelayer, which was George's later profession - address Railway Road, Gunton, Norfolk, Civil parish : Downham Market..... but again I'm only guessing!
However, I have deciphered William Rix's address in 1892 it is Swaffield Road, Wandsworth. I have found it on Mappy, so I'm pretty sure it's right. BUT - (why is there always a "but" ) - I can't find a William Rix in the 1891 census at this address, which might give me his wife's name.
I'm going to have another hunt on IGI to see if I can find any names of siblings......
thank you again for your help
Tilly

SORRY!!
I think I've got muddled up again!!
On the 1901 census concerning George, his place of birth is given as Wisbeach, NORFOLK - however, I now remember that on the original thread, Ricky1 did give me the following information : Wisbech or Wisbeach is in Cambridgeshire and and 59 miles from Cromer Norfolk.....
As soon as I saw your post I remembered this - I reread the thread again so often I don't know how I forgot this - so I suppose I should move the thread to Cambridgeshire? ??

Hi Tilly
I also had a look on the 1891 Swaffield Road, and there are no Rix's on the street

Hello Ricky
So he must have moved into Swaffield Road AFTER the census - very thoughtless of him - a few months earlier would have been much more convenient!
I think George and dad William are playing very hard to get!!
Thank you again for your help
Tilly
ps - I suppose neither George or William are in Swaffield Road in 1881? I know it's illogical, but you never know

Oh dear - so was Swaffield Road named after 1881- that would be just my luck!!
I'm still trying to find George and William - can't find them in IGI or the censuses, but I shan't give up yet.....................
Fingers crossed something will turn up
Thanks again
Tilly
