Thanks a lot Celia. I'm not sure that's him but it gives me something to chew on. I'll check out the censuses for Cheshire.

Shaun
going by the occupation that he has,Whitesmith, coach spring builder & Blacksmith and worked within the railway. Are typical of the sort of jobs a Blacksmith would do.There were hundreds of jobs in the railways for a smithy he even made the seats Smiley & the Big Gates.Next time you go to an old station have a look around. When he was employed to do a particular job, like making springs for coach. That was his occupation at the time. His trade was blacksmith maybe he was out of work in 1845 and he wasn't smithing anything Grin  I wonder if he hung any bells when he was a whitesmith Roll Eyes I was going to suggest that you ask for a census to find out which of the three  Samuels in 1870 are yours, hopfully you will find out. There were a lot more Samuel Jones when i got to the 1860's

Hi Celia

I`m interested in any Gabriel`s in Liverpool area in the  1840`s my Samuel Gabriel was married in Liverpool 1835 but made his way back to Ireland before returning to Liverpool I suspect in the late 1840`s

Not many Gabriel's in Liverpool area around this time may Gabriel`s were Boilermakers working in the local shipyard

Thanks in advance for any info on my Gabriel`s

the record office is only open at the weekends, so it will be this/next weekend before i can go.All the libraries have the directories, but only a bit of each.So i have to go to various places for various years Grin I did however go through some today that were available. There was no mention of John Guy in the1845/47/49/50. There was no Blackstock Road in the 1849,it was in a later one.I did take all the Guy surnames though,do you want them. Can you slim the years down a bit Grin

Joan, there is a John Fletcher, Blacksmith, at 71 Whitechapel in Gore's 1821 Directory - perhaps the father of the one you are looking for?

I had a look through about 8 directories from 1845 to 1864.The only Fletcher Blacksmith (and the only blacksmith) in one and a half pages turned up in 1855
Richard Fletcher Blacksmith 10 Grump Street.
John Fletcher Blacksmith appears in both 1859 & 1860
address 10 Grump Street .Then  they dissapear after 1860,Richard wasn't in the two later directories so maybe died or retired.
