Hi Celia,

Could you keep an eye out for a Whitesmith named Samuel Jones please?

Probably at 61 St Andrew(s) Street.

Hi duckweed

Hope Celia doesn't mind, but I've just been looking at my 1843 directory and have found a Thomas King at 140 Brownlow Hill. He is listed as a druggist and chemist.

Cheers

Thanks I thought he was that kind of Chemist but wasn't sure as he could have been a Brewers Chemist as the rest of the family were in the Wine and brewing trade but the word Druggist confirms what kind he was. Once again thanks.

No i don't mind Erika,if you have a book it's very quick to look things up.It takes ages on films(that includes the waiting to get served  in some establishments;D.)No one has the full set of directories.Every library has part of a set Roll Eyes

HI Celia
Could you look for a Bigland Grundy I have his address as BRIDGE WATER STREET LIVERPOOL in January 1841 he gives that as his address on his daughters Birth Certificate. Although his wife and family were living in Willaston Wirral,His occupation was a Steam Engineer, I would be interested in any other occupants if it lists them.

Hi Pughy
are still on the Bigland trail Grin if a street name is looked up it only gives the House Holders name not all the occupants
I will look under Bigland Grundy first under Surname that gives Address & occupation. If i look at various years i can track him down. Then hopfully find who was the House holder of the address was.

Apart from a good lookup for the Irish board,It hasn't been my day today for the directories ::)Apart from leaving Shaun's request behind.I was looking through the 1841 Liverpool directory under Streets. When i realized it wasn't possible to find out who lives in Bridgewater Street.Because  when i checked  your post for the house number i wanted there wasn't one ::)and i never asked you for it ::)There were 90 houses in Bridgewater St,Presumably off James St. Any chance of you giving me a number Grin

Hi Celia, no worries.  I lose sight of Samuel Jones (my great-great-great grandfather) after 1851 so some look-ups in the 1851-1861 period would be great.

Here is what I know about him in terms of occupation and known addresses.

He was born around 1805. He was a whitesmith, although in 1845 he was recorded simply as a smith on a birth certificate, and one of his sons later described him as a coach spring maker.

In 1825 and 1827 directories there is a Samuel Jones whitesmith at 25 Knight Street

In 1841/2 he is in St Andrew(s) Street (At No 61 in 1842)

In the mid-1840's he is in Monks Coppenhall (Crewe) presumably working in the railway works there.

By 1851 he is back in Liverpool in No 3 Court Upper Dalton Street. I can't see a whitesmith of that name in 1860 Gore's nor can I find him in the 1861 census.
