Husseys 2
« on: Tuesday 04 March 08 02:59 GMT (UK) » |

I'm seeking information on another line of Hussey from Bridport. Christopher Hussey 1803-1837. He married Elizabeth Allen and on 1841 census she is listed with 3 children, Walter b.1836 moved to Bethnal Green London (my ggrandfather). From a cousin in Sussex I have Christopher's death cert. He had accident aboard a ship in Bridport Harbour. No parents or family are given in the cert. From another source I know that another son Robert Copp Hussey was born abt 1825. He married and moved to Runcorn , Cheshire. The name Robert Copp may suggest a parents name. Any assistance appreciated.

Hi Jean Robert Copp Hussey is not really part of my ancestry. He and his descendants in Runcorn are just relatives and I have found them. I'm more interested in the ancestors of Christopher Hussey. There is a possibility that his father was Robert, hence the name of his eldest son, and Copp could be the maiden name of his mother or grandmother, such was the common practice back then. At present there is no OPC in Bridport

Yes Alli I have all that info from Jenny Jones, a curiousfox contact. unfortunately she did not have the time to continue searching for me. Walter bapt 1830 died soon after, so another son b.1836 was named Walter. Christopher was a seaman, so could have come from anywhere. That is the problem

Only 2 are relevant. Elizabeth Hussey re-married Francis Burgess of Devon 1844

Aussie Roy,
I searched for a Catherine Hosie in Victorian London for several years & while I never found her, it became apparent that Hussey, Hosie, Hosea & Hossie were recorded versions of the same name. I'll bet you already knew that but thought I'd mention it just in case.
Regards, Union Jack

Thanks Jack.. As it happens I didnt know that as all the Husseys I need in London are accounted for. Bridport Dorset is the area of interest There are many Hussey families in the Bethnal Green area that at present seem to be unrelated. Walter b 1836 in Bridport , 1851 he is employed as a servant in Brighton, Sussex and in 1860 married Eliza Clark at Hanover Squ. London although Eliza came from Little Bentley, Essex. She may have been in service in London, Why Walter went to Bethnal Green between 1851 and 1860 remains a mystery. If he went to stay with relatives I doubt if it was an elder brother, possibly an elder sister, but most likely an uncle, which would take me back to the west country again.. Roy
