Funeral customs and traditions vary in different countries and in different religions. Funeral Cards were introduced in Ireland just before the First World War but were being sent to bereaved families in Wales in the nineteenth century. http://tiny.cc/Bjorq The Jewish faith first introduced a yizkor (memorial) book at Nuremberg (of all places) in 1296, for use in the synagogue constructed there that year.
