Lucky you Constance- and thanks for the link Lu. I looked for Edward Blakey HASTINGS aka "Stack" Hastings b 1880ish in England and went to NZ in 1927 to Wellington but I had no joy. Maybe he left Wellington and died elswhere--- so the search goes on.
Thanks again for the link , charlotte

Hi again Charlotte
Have a look at the "Resources for Genealogists searching in NZ" thread on the first page of this board - loads of good info there. [And lots of willing helpers on this board too].

Lu,
Thanks again for the encouragement to persist. I've had very little experience with NZ searching and find the scattered nature of the records rather forbidding. I sometimes wish NZ had a freebmd type site where it was all centralized- but then USA doesn't have that either. Perhaps UK is the exception which for many of us with Uk roots that is most fortunate and gets us goinmg in genealogy.
Will do as you suggest and go back to the Resources thread. charlotte.
