Trying to trace a marraige - East Riding?
« on: Wednesday 05 March 08 17:27 GMT (UK) »

Hi from a Newby

I am trying to trace the marraige between my Greatx3 Grandmother and father with no luck so far. I know that they were in the area of Beverly at least 1846-1851 (they could have been there earlier) as they have had their first 3 children registered there in 1846, 1848 and 1850 and in the 1851 census they are lodging with family in Bucks en route to Kent. I haven't found a BMD reference to their marraige either and in the 1841 census they appear to have vanished (or lied?) which makes it more frustrating.
They are Joseph Anthony (baptised 1802 Norfolk) and Rhoda Moreton (baptised 1824 Bucks).

Being in Kent makes it awkward to get to the area to take a look at records but if anyone has spotted them on their own searches could they let me know so we can look into it further?
I have asked for a search to be down in the Bucks area too seeing as it's Rhodas family home area.

thank you

Hello There

And welcome to Rootschat, the best genealogy site there is.

I cannot help with the marriage at all I am afraid. I have tried every thing I know, and every site I have access to........

I have however found the Baptism of Rhoda MORTON, which took place at Penn Holy Trinity, Wycombe on 2nd May 1824 . Father was WINSLOW MORETON , mother ELIZABETH.......

Winslow Moreton married ELIZABETH WINGROVE 15th June 1805, again at Penn Holy Trinity , Wycombe

Winslow is alive in 1841 (MARETON ) and 1851 (Moreton ) and ther are quite a few Moretons, who could be his children........

Hope this helps a little

Kind Regards

Thank you for the welcome JeanieR

Also thanks for taking the time to look around for me and gaining that information (very handy). They'll turn up eventually - its just like looking for a needle in a haystack!!!
