Christening or Baptism of Mary Agnes Sillitoe
« on: Wednesday 05 March 08 17:36 GMT (UK) »

Can anybody look for a possible Christening or Baptism of Mary Agnes Sillitoe
BORN 1864 in Wallasey or Birkenhead Cheshire. She is not on the census for 1871or 1881, and I am trying to find her parents.
Thanks Rocky.

Hi Rocky

You may struggle to find a baptism if you can't narrow down more precisely where she was born.

Looking for a birth registration is likely to be more productive, but I don't see anything that matches the information you have given.

What is the source of your information as to her name at birth?

There's no births for that name at all 1860 to 1865 in cheshirembmd or freebmd.

Hi Anna, this is a tough one, on the census when she married she put Wallasey on the1891 and Birkenhead on the1901. That is all I know,a part from her father is William.

That is all I know,a part from her father is William.

Is he William Sillitoe?  Does this come from the marriage certificate, and if so what was his occupation?

What I am trying to eliminate is the possibility that (although she was a young bride) she might have been married before William Hayes, and thus her maiden name might be something other than Sillitoe.

But if her 1882 marriage certificate says her father is William Sillitoe, then that will knock that possibility on the head...

Hi Anna, her marriage certificate does say William Sillitoe, from the census most of the Sillitoes come from Suffolk, or Worcester, she may have said Wallasey/Birkenhead,thinking she would not be able to marry if she was not local? just in case I have posted on Suffolk/Worcester

In case the name Agnes was only added when she was christened, on free B.M.D There is a Mary Sillito reg Manchester 1864 again there id no Agnes at all.
With it being a surname that can be re-arranged Grin if you use the Phonetic search there are a few just Marys. Also click all counties.Thats usually the quickest way to search if you cant find a mistranscibed name.

Thanks Celia, thats most helpful.I have been in touch with lost cousins who
found a Mary Silitoe (with one L )AGE 4 on the 1861 census with William, but I have not put money on yet to check, this is in Barnston,Cheshire. If it is her she Lied about her age.And although I have looked again on the BMDs still no Birth or Death.
Thanks Rocky.

Hi Rocky,

I am not sure if we are connected but my grandmother was Gwladys Hayes Rogers and was always telling me about Agnes Sillitoe being a relative. I am now searching for the line connecting my grandma to Agnes, who married a Hayes. My grandmother was born in 1902. Let me know if you think there is a connection.

I live in Western Australia, my grandma emmigrated in the 1920s.

regards
