Arminah/Arminal & Thomas PERRY
« on: Thursday 06 March 08 00:56 GMT (UK) »

Arminah (or Arminal) Perry is in the 1841 and 1851 censuses, living at Holcombe Rogus with her husband Thomas.

She then seems to disappear from view as I cannot find her in subsequent censuses, or in death records (via Ancestry).

Similarly, I cannot find Thomas after 1851 (although a death in 1868 in Pontypool in 1868 might be him, as his daughter Mary got married there in 1865). I've ordered the certificate to see if it gives any clues.

The only thing I can think of is that the family emigrated, and so were not recorded in 1861, but if anyone else has a better idea then I would love to hear it - "Arminah" is the most unusual name I have come across in my family tree, and I can't find out what happened to her!

Thank you so much, CaroleW, you are a star!

Yes, this Armenia is undoubtedly "my" Arminah - the Ann and William Virgo she was living with in 1871 were also the witnesses at the 1865 wedding of Arminah's daughter Mary in Pontypool, which will tie in with the death of Thomas Perry in Pontypool in 1868 and Arminah's death there in 1876.

Now all I need to complete the picture is to find out where Thomas and Arminah were living in 1861!

(And thanks too for pointing out to any researchers that Thomas was born in Somerset, not Devon.)

I have scoured the 1861 under all possible permutations but can't find them

I've even tried under Amelia.  Very frustrating when you know they were both alive in 1861.  Thought I had Armina but she was widowed aged 76 b Devon living with daughter Ann Clark 35 b Jersey and husband Daniel (transcribed as Clack)

When I checked the 1841 - daughter Ann was only 5

I appreciate your efforts, like you I have drawn a blank on the whole family for 1861.

Thomas, Arminah, Mary and Ann were all alive before and after the 1861 census, but I cannot see them on Ancestry in England, Scotland, Channel Islands or Wales!

Ann was in Pontypool by 1863 when she married William Virgo, and Mary was there by 1865 when she married William Golding Marsh.

But where on earth were they all in 1861?Huh  Huh
