I have been looking for a William Brown born between 1740 and 1755 who married a Katharine Campbell in Ochiltree 1776. So far I have two possibilities:-William born New Cumnock 1741 parents Hugh Brown and Janet Baird the other William born New Cumnock 1752 parents Hugh Brown and Agnes Baird (info from IGI) What really puzzles me is that in both the address given is either "House of the Water" Ayr or Waterside Ayr. Can anyone kindly explain where this is? Thanks

Waterside is a village near Dalmellington, New Cumnock is about 12 miles away from Waterside and both about 20-30mins from Ayr. I can only find Janet and Hugh having the one child but Agnes and Hugh quite a few all New Cumnock. The 3 entries for William with parents Hugh and Janet, the first one is a LDS entry copied from Parish records (click on the Batch No. left hand side to view other Browns)the second 2 entries have been entered by someone to the church and may not be accurate. No idea what House of the Water, Ayr is, maybe someone more local will have an idea. Happy hunting

Hi, Angie, Me Again, did some more map checking at work and have come across a House of Water Farm,(sits right next to the River Nith) New Cumnock, Ayrshire and also discovered there is a Waterside and a Waterside Industrial Estate in New Cumnock so the IGI entry for House of Water Farm Ayr and Waterside Ayr I would think should have been entered Ayrshire. So disregard my previous post Waterside Dalmellington (don't think its that Waterside). I also googled on House of Water and got into someone else researching a different family and some Browns were in it and now I can't find it. I'll keep searching and if I find it I will let you know. Liz
