They came from Somerset. Have a look at the manifest on Ellis Island site.

Thomas was already resident in US and Willie and Edith were born in US.

Thanks Geoff,

I have a Thomas Boyland on my tree married to an Elizabeth, but were still baptising children as late as 1899 so cannot be this family. Is it possible to find birth details of children? If the family left Southampton how could two of the children have been born in US?
Sorry to appear thick, but cannopt follow this info? How could Thomas be resident in the US and still be on the boat from Southampton in 1900?Could he have gone out to join another Thomas??

regards,

This family appear in Chautauqua, NY, in the 1920 census. The youngest son is now listed as 'Leonard', which fits with a Leonard Michael b. Sep 1898 quarter in Chard district on freebmd (also elder brother Thomas born there in 1896).  From 1910, the older children ("Walter" and "Ethel") were b. NY.

I am not sure if you have Ellis Island but if not go to

                         http://www.ellisisland.org/

You can then access the full manifest which definitely says that Thomas is Resident in the US. His occupation was carter and he was going to his uncle.

                                                                    Regards

Hi Jorose,

I see that they are still in Chautauqua in 1930 (from the index) but cannot access details
