Hello Iain,

Apparently it is a hamlet in the parish of Croydon.

Hi Phil.

Can you give an idea of the timeframe?

Hello Dave,

That link I gave Iain is from 1868, but I had a look at the Diocese of Southwark page for Waddon and although a church was built there in 1932, it is still a daughter church of the Church of St John the Baptist, Croydon.

Hi.
so this Sarah COLLINS who in the census stated that she was born in Waddon in 1813 could be the one.

Sarah COLLINS
22 AUG 1813   Saint John The Baptist, Croydon, Surrey, England

It could well be Iain.
The nearest parish I can think of on the other side of Waddon, is Beddington, but as Waddon was part of Croydon parish, then St John's is the most likely.
The only way to more or less prove it is if you can confirm her parents names somehow. The original parish register entry may give an approximate address (probably no more than "Waddon"), although many are no more precise than "of this parish".

on her marriage cert her father is JOHN a carter.
on the entry from st johns croydon taken from theigi the fathers name is john and mothers ann.
so, could well be the one, suppose looking at the parish register and hoping for a mention of waddon would be logical step.

Sorry Phil,I meant to address that question to Iain.

Hi Iain.
I could walk from any part of Waddon to St John the Baptist Church at Croydon in less than 20 minutes, they are that close.

Which census do you mean?

I cannot find any Collins at Waddon on the 1811 Croydon "Head of Household"census, although there are entries at Waddon.

I have looked at film of the Registers of St John the Baptist on several occassions and I think it very likely that the area would be mentioned.
