1861 Census Lookup BIRD Solved
« on: Thursday 06 March 08 17:56 GMT (UK) »

Could someone please take a look at the entry for David Bird on the 1861 census & tell me what they think his occupation is.

Class: RG9; Piece 1449; Folio: 148 page 70

On the 1871 census he is a naval pensioner

I'm still looking for him on the 1841 & 1851 censuses

do you think it could be 'Pensioner - Greenwich'? Haven't yet looked for earlier  censuses but perhaps he was away at sea?

There's some info here:

http://www.nmm.ac.uk/server/show/conWebDoc.17938

and it says there are records at the National Archives - that may help in tracing him in earlier censuses.

best wishes

Thank you!  I'd never heard of Greenwich Pensioners before.
