1851 census - Miller from Kirkintilloch
« on: Wednesday 05 December 07 00:45 GMT (UK) »

Hello
I am  looking for Hugh Miller from Kirkintilloch.  Margaret his wife was age 25 and they had a daughter also Margaret age abt 1, I found Margaret and daughter with father and also Margaret and 4 more children with father in 1861 and don't know enough about Hugh to find him alone so does anyone have any ideas.  All I have is deceased before 1875 and occupation was carter.
Thanks, Carmel

Hi Carmel, was Margaret's maiden name SEMPLE? I found 2 entries on the IGIs,

Submitted entry;

           HUGH MILLER = MARGARET SEMPILL
              About 11th May 1849 Kirkintilloch DUMBARTON

Extracted entry;

           HUGH MILLER = MARGARET SEMPLE
             22nd Apr 1849 Bothwell LANARK

I also found these

          MARGARET SEMPLE b 19th Apr 1821
                                        ch 6th June 1825 Kirkintilloch

         Father - Thomas Semple
         Mother - Mary Ure

and a son for Hugh and Margaret

        THOMAS 22 Apr 1856 Kirkintilloch

The last 2 are extracted entries.

I couldn't find any entries for Hugh ( correct timeframe )in Kirky but there some submitted ones for Bothwell that might be worth a look.

Thanks for your help Val
Yes Margaret was Semple and Thomas born 1856 is theirs.  However Margaret was daughter of Walter born 25 Jul 1825 and christened in August.
I am having trouble working out when Hugh died as he was not with family in 1851 or 1861 but there are 5 children with Margaret in 1861.
Thanks, Carmel
