1851/1861 Look-up Please - Emily Jane James

Would appreciate more information on:

Emily Jane James christened June 28, 1848 in Cleobury Mortimer,
Shropshire, England.

Her mother listed as Jane James.

I would like to know where she lived and who with in 1851/1861 and even 1871 census. If I have the right Emily, she emigrated to Australia in 1873.

I assume the #2 was Emily Jane James age. Is that correct?

Hi Sisterjane

Is it possible for you to look up Emily Jane James in the
1871 census?

If I have the correct Emily Jane, she met a William Griffiths from
Llanvairwaterdine, Shropshire.

They likely married about 1872 as their sailing ship, ESSEX,
departed for Australia in Oct. 1872 or Jan. 1873. Their
first child was born March 1873 in AU.

Hello English Daisy

The post that Sisterjane put for the 1851 Census is as it reads ie Jane James, aged 2, relationship to head of household is "nurse child". There is no mention of her mother. I won't speculate as to what this means, but it is what is on the census image. So this may or may not be your Emily Jane James. Do you know when Jane James the mother died?

I'm off to work now so hopefully someone can find Emily Jane in the 1871 for you.

Firstly..Thanks very much to Gaie for clarifying the details.

Right..the nearest I could find in 1871 is a Jane James 22 Unmarried b Llangwy/Radnorshire/Wales her relationship to head is Servant
Head of house is Thomas Edwards and his wife Ann who are Farmers

Hi Sisterjane

Thank you for researching Emily Jane James.

The only Emily Jane James I was able to find using my few
resources was the one born June 28, 1848, Cleobury Mortimer, Shropshire.
Her age of 25yrs matched the age of Emily Jane Griffiths on the ESSEX sailing ship.

Also, Cleobury is near where her husband William Griffiths was born in
Llanvair Waterdine, Shropshire. William had a sheep ranch in AU and is a farmer.

You have now come up with another Emily Jane and a Jane James.

How far away is Llangwry from Knighton? The AU relatives keep saying
William was born in Knighton, but all my research points to Llanvair Waterdine, which is situated nearby, on Wales/Shropshire border! William mother's grave is in Llanvair Waterdine.

Your last two posts are most interesting. When you have time,
would it be possible for you to send me the complete census details for
both.

Ive no idea how far Llangwy is from Knighton...but I did have a quick peek for William Griffiths in the 1871 and if he is the right one(Father John Mother Susanna) living in Llanfair Waterdine-Shropshire then I can tell you that LLanfair Waterdine is in the Registration District of Knighton.

So although Emily was in the Wales 1871 cencus in Knighton William was in the same Reg District at the same time but in Shropshire-England.

I can only guess that Knighton must border both England and Wales

Hope that makes sense LOL!!!!

And this is the William Griffith I looked at in 1871 but I dont know if he is your man as there is another one a few years older with mother Susan(widow)who are all Farmers so maybe its that one Huh

as William went on to farm in Aus.
