this piece of the puzzle is proving very elusive. I am looking for the marriage details of Robert Allen, July-Sept 1863 Portsea/Norwich. So far I've had very little luck finding out the name of his marriage partner. any help would be so much appreciated. thank you..........Lyn

Hi Lyn,
Do you know anything else about Robert Allen that might allow you to find him in a census somewhere living with his wife i.e: place /date of birth?
Does the Portsea/Norwich in your message mean that you aren't sure whether he married in Portsea (Hampshire?) or Norwich (Norfolk) ? On the freeBMD website I didn't really understand the marriage entries for Norwich 1863 as no two people seem to be on the same page:

I don't know if a mistake was made at the time when presumably a list of entries was sent to the central registry office/ if I'm being quite dim and not reading them properly/ or if it was very difficult to read the entries to transcribe them.
If you are sure the marriage was that Robert Allen in Norwich maybe you'll just have to order the certificate to be really sure who he married (perhaps it might be worth to look on the 1837 website to check the reference first).
If you moved your posting to either the Norfolk or Hampshire boards (depending on if you want Norwich or Portsea) maybe someone there might be able to help more.

Hello Emily.thank you for looking up the details on my request. This ALLEN is proving difficult to find. If my information is correct, he was born in Surrey.I have checked the reference on the 1837 site, and have got the ref 4b pg 238. There is also another one for Norfolk for Oc-Dec 1864, and once again it's 4b, but the pg no's are hard to read, possibly 363. I'll put a posting on the Norfolk requests, maybe I'll have some luck. thank you once again ......... Lyn

1.Robert Allen age 20 on 28/6/1862 at welney to
Hannah Mott age 21
husbands father James Allen
wifes father Edward Mott
2. Robert Allen age 33 on 2/11/1862 at St Nicholas yarmouth to
Mary Ann Beckett age 35 [previousley married]
husbands father Edward Allen
wifes father John Jubbes

Hi Audrey. Sorry for the mix up by me. The youngest of the 2 Allen's would be about the right age, as he was born about 1841. Don't know his wife's name or any other members of the family. Now I need to find out if they are shown with any family members on the 1871 census. thank's for your help, it's much appreciated.

I have just posted some information on the Hampshire page of the Rootschat messages.
Basically I have a Robert Francis Allen born in 1808. His parents were John & Mary Allen.
He had a brother David (born 1809) who married in Portsea in 1829.
I know the link in fragile but they obviously lived in the Portsea area of Portsmouth at some time in their lives.
