Hello from Canada and thanks for looking at this post
I was wondering if anyone can offer me any assistance or point me in the right direction for the following family query. I have been trying very hard to solve this riddle with no success. My great great grandfather came to Canada as part of the Imperial troops sometime prior to 1840 and ended up staying here and marrying. The family name is West and this is what I have.
John West (b1794) and Mary (nee lacey from Ireland) had a child named Robert who was born in 1817 (Nottinghamshire). Robert came to Canada with the Imperial troops and would later marry Elizabeth (nee Craig) in the Toronto Military Chapel on January 7, 1840.
John and Mary may also have had a few other children (confusion in the family records). Either they had other children named Jean, William, Sarah John, Alice and Mary OR Jean married a William Smith of the Coldstream Guards and they had children named Sarah, John, Alice and Mary?
What I am trying to determine is: When did Robert come to Canada and with which regiment did he serve? Did John and Mary have several children or did one of them marry a William Smith of the Coldstream Guards?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Sincerely,
Geoffrey
