If any one is popping to the records office or has access to Brampton parish records, I would really appreciate a baptism look up for John Fairey (loads of variants appear throughout his life, Farry etc) born c1835 and I belive his parents were Benjamin & Mary.
Thanks for any help, much appreciated
Shirl

Benjamin Fairey and his family appear on the 1841 census (which I don't have a reference for, just notes):
Benjamin b Halifax c1801 Head Ragman Mary Wife b c1805 children Jane 13, Frederick 11, Rachel 9, Emma 7, John 5, Peter 3, James 2, nk 3wks.
Benjamin was buried Brampton 19/08/1863 age 65. Mary was buried 10/11/1842 age 38, and I believe Benjamin then married Elizabeth Lowe in 1843 and had more children.
I also have notes about brothers Richard and John Fairey, both born Brampton c1821 & 1825. They appear together on the 1841 as young ag labs, and in 1871 the widowed John is living with Richard and his family. The name of John's first wife is not known, but his second wife was Hannah Little. He died in 1888 aged 63.
Whether Richard and John were children of Benjamin is difficult to say, particularly as there seems to be a younger son John. I was following this family because one of Richard's sons, Joseph, married a girl from my Lancashire home town, and because my Fairey family comes from Hunts, though I haven't been able to make a connection between our two families.
I do have other information to share if you are interested. What is your link to this family?
Regards,
Gillg

Hi Gillg
Thanks very much for that information, the Fairey link is rather distant to say the least in our tree, one of our very distant relatives has a link to that side and we are all helping with data gathering as she lives in Australia now but I am sure she would be interested in any detail on the Fairey's . If you want to send me a pm I will ask her if she would like her email address passed on to you. What she had so far was that John Fairey 1835 married Mary ? (who may be Mary Baxter born Barham, Hunts 1840), they were in Bethnal Green London by 1871 with a son William John Fairey. Look forward to sharing information with you.
Thanks again Shirl

It sounds as though the John who was 5 in 1841 is the right one, rather than John brother of Richard.
I'd be happy to share what I have with your Australian relative and will send you a PM with my email address for her.
Cheers
Gill
