George Shillinghall
« on: Saturday 08 March 08 06:16 UTC (UK) »

Could someone please tell me if there was a George Shillinghall in or around the Chingford-green area in Essex, or any Shillinghall families at all, George  was born around 1804 give or take a year.

I have found nothing on researching this particular surname.

Thank You

Shari

Doing a global search on the censuses doesn't bring up any mention of that name anywhere at all.    Shilling or Hall each on their own, yes, but not Shillinghall.

Hi,

Yes that's what I thought due to having no luck  in finding anything at all.

George Shillinghall was a convict and I wondered if his name has been mispelt somehow, I have tried other spellings to no avail.

Thank you for your reply

Hi Shari,

The Old Bailey site has the trial of a George Shillinghall who came from Chingford. The trial was on 29 October 1829. Is this your man?

Hello Frances,

Yes that is my George Shillinghall, I am trying to find out where he hailed from before being tramsported to Van Dieman's Land.

Archives here in Tasmania have him married under Shillinghall however children born to him are registered as Shillinglaw and I cannot find anything on that surname either so it seems I have run into a dead end.
