Sister Frances Freshney
« on: Saturday 08 March 08 12:26 GMT (UK) »

Hi

Looking for any info on this lady.  She was born in 1884 - no idea where.  She served in WW1 in the SAMNS in Europe and was decorated by the Belgians.  She returned to SA in 1924.

I'm looking particularly for her service record while she was in Europe.

Cheers

Per freebmd - only a possibility as no country of birth known

Frances Harriette Freshney September qtr 1883 Louth  Lincolnshire
Volume: 7a  Page: 603

She returned to SA in 1924.

Gives the impression she was there beforehand so have you checked SA records or ship passenger lists to SA

Just noticed - you have already posted a similar query on 3rd March!

Did you follow up on any of the links given in the replies to that message to establish more info?  There is no point posting the same type of message as it only wastes time and duplicates info already given to you

Did you purchase a copy of the medal card?

Did you check the passenger record found for you by purchasing credits on findmypast

Reading your original post - this person has no connection to your own FH and information about her is more than a little sparse

A friends Grandfather, William Devereaux, was with the 14th AIF in France and England.  In his diary he talks about a 'Nurse Freshney' in terms that suggest more than a professional relationship.  So, looking for anything on this nurse.

Hi Carole

It was never my intention to upset anyone or waste peoples time.  I was working on the assumption (right or wrong) that she was South African as she served with a SA unit and traveled out there just after the war.  That is the reason I posted on the South Africa board to see if people with a particular interest in that country and its people could help me.

As for the purchase of the medal card and credits from findmypast, that info was past on to my friend who indicated that she would do that. As you say this person has no connection to me!

Although I should not have to justify myself I feel I need to so that you, and others, understand my thought train and also understand that we all have different ways of going about things.

I would like to say thanks for pointing me to the freeBMD reference to Frances. Wink

Cheers

Hi Bob

Your current post was very likely to attract the same info as previously given hence my reply to save any duplicated efforts.

Might it not be better to wait until the info from those sources is known, as it may shed a whole new light on things.
