Baptism of children of CHARD
« on: Saturday 08 March 08 13:21 GMT (UK) »

Can anyone find the parents of these children?
All registered Falmouth

D 1/4 1906 Marjorie Blanch Chard
D 1/4 1907 Roland Reader T Chard
M 1/4 1908 Arthur William Chard
S 1/4 1908 Jack Thomas Chard
D 1/4 1909 Kenneth Charles Chard
J 1/4 1910 Doris Mary Chard

I want to know parents names to see if they are all siblings. Many thanks, Tidgie

Because of the period involved, you would need to know the church where (and if) they were baptised.  You also need to bear in mind that baptisms could take place weeks/months or even years after a birth

If you look at the quarters in which they were born - it would be impossible for all of them to be siblings

March quarter 1908
September quarter 1908

December quarter 1909
June quarter 1910

You really need to establish what you know about these children - apart from their surname - and how they fit into your family history

Using a ladies intuition and dont actually have proof as such but there was a marriage between a

Arthur William Chard and i think an Ada Blanche Alway
Dec quarter 1898 Falmouth

Given the similarity of names i think it's a good shot for at least some of the children.Grin

If you can view a 1901 census for Falmouth would be worth it.

Hi Su

No - you were right to draw attention to it.  It looked like a good find on the face of it.

There were 59 "Chard's" in Falmouth in 1901 and 106 entries in total throughout Cornwall

Tidgie has a couple of options:

Buy all birth certs - very expensive!!

Get more info from relatives to pin down which family is which

If she has Chard ancestry then a birth cert of one of her known Chard ancestors will give parents names and mothers maiden name

  Thanks for your info,
I have
Marriage 1905 Newton A Devon
Arthur Summers Chard
Maude Mary Knight.

I know they had
Kenneth 1911
Clifford   1913
Joan      1914

but wanted to find which of the other children were theirs, they would not be on 1901 as they were not born. Thanks,

It would have helped if you had included that info in your post and would have saved a lot of wasted effort by Su & myself
