The missing Clark girls COMPLETED
« on: Saturday 08 March 08 14:29 GMT (UK) »

I am trying to find the two daughters of Joseph Henry Clark (born 1806) in the 1841 census. I have found their father in this census living in St James Westminster, Golden Square (Vigo Street) where he is a Perfumer.  Only his wife, Susanna, and the baby son, Henry, are with him.

I cannot find the daughters - Eliza (born 1830), Emma Susanna (born 1829) or Janet Ann (I'm not 100 per cent sure about this daughter!) (born 1834). They were all born St James, Middlesex, England.

Their father also had at least three residences in Norfolk Road, St John's Wood (I have his will) - numbers 13, 14 and 19 - maybe they are in one of these houses......

Son Henry is not mentioned in the will (proved in 1852), but a nephew Thomas is.  Eliza and Emma Susanna are both mentioned, not Janet.

The daughter I am most interested in is Eliza, as this is my Gt Gt Grandmother - but I'd like to know where the others are too!!!

Many thanks for any help

There are two girls of the right age here in what looks like some sort of school.

Hello Sue

Thank you for the info - but I can't find it Embarrassed

Is it in Scotland or in England?  Were both girls' first names on the list?

Can you help me a bit more please?

Hi Tilly

This is in Hammersmith Middlesex,England  Wink

They are both spelt with an E on the end of their names.

Emma Clarke 12 born in county
Eliza Clarke 10   "          "

It is called Ilex House and is run by 50 year old Mary Lee,schoolmistress.
There appear to be dozens of other girls.....or should that be 'young ladies'  Grin

Hope that's clearer now?

Got it!!!

Thank you Carol for the tip - I didn't even think of adding an E on the end  Embarrassed !!! -

Definitely "young ladies" - Georgina, Lucretia, Jemima..............!!

I shall now have a hunt for Janet Ann - with and without an E!!

Thank you again
