I'm looking for any information on the Rackham family in Wrentham. My great great grandfather Henry Rackham was born there in 1826. His father was Samuel and his mother Mary.
I'm also looking for any known information on a Sarah Mary Ann Rackham who was buried in Wrentham Cemetery having died in 1912. There is a bit of a mystery surrounding this name as my Great Great Grandfather Henry married a Sarah Mary Ann Wright in Tipton (West Midlands) having moved up there. I haven't managed to find any information with regards to a death of her up here in the Midlands after 1901, therefore it makes me wonder if she moved to Wrentham, where her daughter had previously moved to. Both the Sarah in Wrentham cemetery and My Sarah in the West Midlands have the same birth year! Anything would be greatly appreciated.
Also any information on other Rackhams, or if anyone has any pictures of any of the Rackham family in the late 1800's early 1900's would be great.

Catherine Sandys, I WILL find out where you went.

Hello and welcome to Rootschat.
This looks like the parents marriage from the Suffolk Marriage Index.
Samuel Rackham Mary Rushmere of Covehithe
11th October, 1822 = Wrentham.
Do you have census information?

Hey thanks,
Yes that is right, it was Samuel Rackham who had married a Mary Rushmere, although the location of her birth was not known.
I have the 1841 Census record, which shows my Gt Gt Grandfather Henry, however by 1851 Henry was not listed in Wrentham. I could only find one Henry Rackham who was born the same year and in Suffolk and that was one who was working in Derbyshire as a servant. This must be him, so I suppose any information which can shed light on if this was him and how he managed to get from Wrentham to Derbyshire would be greatly appreciated.

Hi populardude
I was in town and had half an hour to spare so nipped into the records office and scribbled down all references to Rackham in the transcripts of Wrentham parish registers. Obviously these are indexed by surname so much quicker than making notes from the registers themselves.
Not sure how many of these Rackhams relate to your direct family (not helped by the fact that I had no notes of your request with me and was just doing it from memory!). I just noted down all that I could see.

Taken from transcripts of burials register
All Rackhams buried at Wrentham:
George, infant 8th May 1828 Ann, infant 26th Apr 1828 Sarah, married woman age 36, 30th Dec 1829 Robert Samuel Rackham, infant 14 Feb 1830 Edward, infant, 9 November 1829 Robert, infant, 6th December 1829 Thomas, 1 year, 24th june 1832 James, 3, 12th Feb 1845 William, 5 months, 22nd July 1844 Samuel, age 75, 23rd Oct 1847 (in the register with this entry it says Erysepdley. I have tried googling this but it is obviously not spelt right as it isn't recognised, so not sure what it's meant to be!) Male child of Samuel & Hannah Rackham, stillborn, 11th Sept 1856 George, age 21, 12th April 1859 Mary, 64, 14th March 1860 John, 9 weeks, 15th April 1860 Stillborn child of Mary Rackham, 5th March 1861 Samuel, age 48 years, 18th July 1862 Elizabeth, age 5, 17th Feb 1864 Susan, age 74, 3rd Sept 1868 Henry, age 49, 11th Nov 1869 George, age 42, 14th April 1870 Hannah, age 50, 5th march 1881 Elizabeth, age 7 years, 6th April 1880 Samuel, age 89 years, 10th March 1885 Ellen, age 23, 24th Feb 1890 Maria, age 64, 15th March 1891
I expect someone will put me right if this is not so, but I'm assuming that all the above (early) burials are in the churchyard of St Nicholas church Wrentham, as opposed to the cemetery which I looked round the other week!
Have fun sorting through the above!
Best wishes Anne

Hi Annes,
I would just like to thank you and show my gratitude for your help with this... I can't believe how many there are still available in the registers. This is a fantastic source of information, which I wouldn't have been able to get easily without your kindness.
I can see that there are names on there that I do recognise, and to now finally be able to add those dates to certain events is really good thing.
I can probably imagine that most of these early people are also buried in St Nicholas Church also... I did wonder however that the Sarah Mary Ann Rackham... d.1912 if she was buried in the churchyard, as opposed to the cemetary... i think it states on one of the suffolk church sites as being possibly at St Nicholas Cemetary... maybe this is why she was not found when you visited the cemetary?
But thanks once again for this information...
