Hello again
I have just received a copy of the marriage certificate of James & Fanny.
It gives the year of the marriage has 6/1/1889 not 88.
James living in Carndonagh i cannot make out his fathers name as i think they shortend it to J A harkin which would match other members of the family, both are given as farmers.
Fanny's father was called Michael  not Philip as in a previous message sorry if i wasted anyone's time , can not make out proffession only it looks like the letters W O ? .
Witness's were Bernard McLaughlin & Kate MCallion

Hi Celtic Gael (or anyone else)

Do you happen to know if the original parish records are held in the Sacred Heart Church in Carn. I made inquiries there a few years ago but the Parish Priest proved to be rather off handed so I did not persue it but perhaps it may be worth another try.

Hi Agnes
I have photo copies of pages from Carndonagh but what I would like to see is the original entries. I would like to see if they would yield more information than the printouts in Carn Library. I may be in Carn in the spring and if the originals were in the church I would try and make an appointment with the secretary and see if it was possible to view them.
Thanks again for your offer of help and your reply

My cousin from Derry told me today, that my Harkin's lived in a cottage belonging to the railway called the Gate Lodge at Straws bridge.
I don't know if he worked for them or not, any info on this one would be great always appreciated

Hello Rossee
Thank you for your post, yes they are my family from the look of it it all seems to add up,mind you did i not know about Philip that's a new one on me.
The land belong to the The LondonDerry & Loughswilly railway that is where the railway part come from my late mother always said her granddad had something to do about the railway .
I was wondering  are the Harkins from Rasheeny related to mine  as my G father James 1890 put on his marriage certificate as living in Rasheeny by 1916.
thank you for going out your way to help a fellow Root's chatter
