Fred Saxton m. Ada Buxton
« on: Saturday 08 March 08 17:06 GMT (UK) »

I have found a marriage for Fred Saxton and Ada Buxton on free BMD Sept qtr 1912. He was possibly killed in WW1 22 March 1918 the one enlisted from a Bedfordshire Regiment.

What I would like to find out is whether there were any children during this short 6-year marriage. Can anyone help or advise me please?

Judy

You are lucky,as this is just in the timeframe where mothers maiden names were displayed on births.(from Sept 1911)

You can try Free BMD http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ by entering Saxton as the childs surname and Buxton as mothers maiden name.

I have just done so and sadly none appear.

So it would seem as though they had no children.

I'll see if I can check his service record for you too.

Thank you Carol.

It is a little disappointing that there were no children. I would love to find some more relatives! Can you possibly find a death for this Ada please.

Don't be confused but, strangely enough, my uncle who was also a Fred Saxton also married an Ada and her death would show up in the1950s (I think).

Yes, freeBMD has been very busy this afternoon, I noticed earlier.

Thanks again.

If they were a young couple in 1912,I would imagine she would have remarried after Fred's death? A lot of WW1 widows did.

I'm afraid looking for her death would be like the proverbial needle in haystack.

She could have remarried, once, twice,or not at all she could have lived to 90.

Do you have any clues at all on her later years? Or her DOB?

I have her as being born in 1887. She may well be on the 1901 census as that "lace hand" in Nottingham.

Of course I should have thought about her remarrying. My husband's grandmother remarried when her first husband was killed in 1918 leaving her with 3 little ones. She had 2 further children.

Thanks for your persistence.

Don't work too hard on my account. It's enough to learn that there were no offspring.
