My mother's great grandmother, Emma Welham, was reputed to have lost her leg in a shipping/boating accident. She lived in north London most of her life, where all but one of her children, George, were born. George was born in Hull in 1868, and I have no idea why she was there. It occurred to me that she may have gone to Hull by ship, and maybe she lost her leg boarding a ship (carrying baby George) on the way back.
My query is, and please excuse what is obviously a wide shot, are there records in Hull of that time which might show where such an injury would be treated?
There are several hospitals listed for Hull, and and I had a quick look at them, but there don't seem to any surviving patient records for the two main general hospitals in the area for the period that you are interested in. You might want to have a more thorough look, though.
