Speight marriage 1806 Bexley.
« on: Saturday 08 March 08 20:29 GMT (UK) »

Hi all,

I have the marriage of Richard Speight b1777 (Kendal) and Mary Ann Beadle in 1806 in Bexley from an IGI extract. Is there any way someone could take a look at the original entry and see what parents are listed, if any? Any other details would also be welcome.

Thanks all in advance. :-)

Hi Paul

Bexley local studies will do simple lookups (up to 20 minutes) for free - that should be long enough if you supply the full date etc..  I assume, if the IGI listing is correct, that it would be the parish church of St Mary, Bexley.

Its bad news.   Roll Eyes Bexley got back to me and there are no parents listed.  Cry

So ... what next?

Richard says he was born in Kendal (on census) ... no sign of his christening.  Cry

He was married in Bexley ... no indication of his parents. Cry

I suppose he is now officially a brick wall.

I am hoping for a late christening perhaps. What other methods are there to trace him? There certainly were Speights in Kendal at that time. At least one family there seems to have several names in common with Richard's children.

Oh, sorry, no there wouldn't be any parents listed prior to 1837 but possibly, abode, marital status and witnesses who may or may not be relatives.

Do you have an occupation for him (from baptisms of children perhaps)?

Were there other SPEIGHTs in the area (Kent) who may have originated in Westmorland?

Did any of the SPEIGHTs in the Kendal area leave a will that may mention Richard?

They are going to send me a copy so perhaps there will be. I'll get back on that one. There is still hope. Smiley

Labourer :-( From one son's christening in Gravesend (found in CityArk).

Good thought. I'll take a look.

Thanks for the ideas. :-)

Bexley got back to me.

Witnesses  Edward Miller, Eliza Beadle (probably Mary's elder sister Elizabeth).

No Speights so this is probably now officially a dead end. Sad Unless, of course, someone knows better.
