I believe my Hannah Stephenson is one of the 171 at this school, can anyone shed light on it?

Thank you, they also have a list of the residents on there and I see a few other 'Stephensons' as well but have not managed to decide if they are related. I note they are listed as being born in Newcastle, however my Hannah was born in Burradon. I have yet to pin her down in the 1891 census.

The Industrial Schools Acts of 1837 and subsequently, laid down the circumstances for admission as Child under 14 found begging, wandering homeless with no means of support, associating with known criminals, under 12 and committing a crime carrying the penalty of imprisonment, or a 14yr old being declared out of control by a parent willing to pay for their board.
My sister in law's grandfather Theodore Boston 12 is there with his brother in 1901 but I can't find them in 1891 either. He changed his name before he joined the Royal Navy and got married.

I saw your Hannah was from Burradon. There is a Hannah Stephenson resident in Garden Row, Dudley, the mining village next to Burradon in 1891, her age seems to be 7, residing in her widowed grandfather's house.
The other Burradon is just a farm in the hills.

When was your Hannah born ?

Burradon was one of the eight "townships" that made up the Parish of Earsdon. Was she baptised at St Alban's, Earsdon Parish church ?

not sure on that we are at the moment only 'supposing' as the family had lived there for a couple of generations
