Hi All,
I need some help in finding some missing "Gillespies" children who would of been born/chr from 1815 - 1833 in the areas of Dailly, Ballantrae, Girvan and maybe Maybole in Ayrshire.
What I do have is the 1841 census which mentions; Agnes 45 b Ireland John 47 b Ireland Agnes 19 b Ballantrae Ann 13 b Dailly Charles 20 b Ballantrae Jean 17 Ballantrae Mary McClymont 9 Ayr James Mc Hallan 2 Ayr Thomas Gray 7 mths Ayr The last 3 children listed are Grandchildren of Agnes and John Gillespie.
On the 1851 census it mentions 2 other Grandchildren, Jannet Cunnimgham 4 b Glasgow Anne Mc Murtie 6 born Maybole Ayr
If anyone could please help me find these missing Gillespie children belonging to John and Agnes Gillespie, it would be fantastic!!! Thankyou to anyone who looks Wendy

It might be worth mentioning what searches you have carried out yourself first to avoid duplication of effort. Have you tried ScotlandsPeople?
LDS has no children called Gillespie with parents John / Agnes in Ayrshire.

Hi daval57,
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner but i haven't been well.
I have looked and still am looking on Scotlandspeople but it is costing me lots of money.............
I did find James Mchallum's (grandson of John and Agnes Gillespie) death, and brought his death certificate which has given me his mothers name M. S Gillespie.
I have also purchased Mary McClymont's birth certificate which has given me her mother's name as Isabella Gillespie.
That is two Gillespie children down, just a few more to find.
I did put a request in for the 1851 census for THOMAS GRAY but it wasn't the correct one. I have aslo put in a request for a look up on the 1820 to 1854 Ayr deaths for Gillespie but came up blank.
If anyone can help it WOULD be FANTASTIC!!!
Wendy

Wendy, I've had a good hunt around over the last week or so with no luck. Sorry I've been no help whatsoever. Has anything you've found confirmed Agnes' maiden name?

Well done LL. The spelling of Gillespie with just the one l may make a difference although I would have thought soundex would have picked up on that.

Hi,
and thankyou to both of you!!
I had some information sent to me durning the week from USA it was from the genealogy web site"rootsweb". It stated that James Mc Hallum, Annie Murtrie and Jannet Cunningham (the grandchildren of Agnes and John Gillespie) were all illegitimate.
I am not sure who the parents were of Jannet Cunningham as yet but Annie Murtrie's parents were apparently Mary Gillespie & John, Thomas, or David Mc Murtrie. There was some contradictory evidence on who the father was as any of those McMurtrie men could of fathered Annie.
On the death certificate of James Mc Hallum it looks like his mothers name was Mary Gillespie, but since it is hard to read it I am now wondering if it could be "Marg." (short for Margaret). Other wise this Mary Gillespie kind of got around a bit. Anyway, thank you to you both and if you find any more information please let me know.
Kind regards Wendy
