It looks like his adopted family was "Ham".
Here is the 1911 Census for the Ham's, just a few months before Patrick arrived.

Well done in finding that information on Patrick Janice...
I can't see Mae either on the BHC or anywhere...Mind you she'd have come a lot later as they never sent infants.
If Patrick's death in 1894...I don't think he was the father of Patrick or Mae Deaths Sept. Q as Patrick Mallin age 46 Wigan vol. 8c p.25
Hi, Anita! You may want to buy the cert for Mae in 1809 to see what the father's name is...just in case she went by the name of the father rather than the single mother. Also Mae/May can be an abbreviation for Mary... nevermind I see I have that all wrong now...

whoosh, I am thinking this out wrong, as usually the father or mother or both dies, then children are sent as home children. having read through again...she didn't marry the father of some of her children until 1915? and Patrick was sent away in 1911...I guess she was really in dire staits....

Hopefully the Baird Family site will have more information. I can't find her on the passenger lists at all. (Either home child, or through regular immigration).
I have checked the Ancestors on Board site, as well as the National Archives Canada site.

Thanks again Janice, The only Mae Plumb i have found on passenger lists is 1949, much to late for my mae, there is another sibling Esther Ann Plumb i havent been able to find, My husbands Cousin said she remembers her mother talking a bout a sister Nellie and also about Canada, The marriage 1915 is right for Alice Ann Plumb to Patrick Plumb they had only been married a few months when Patrick snr died in Belguim in the war,
Kind Regards Anita
