My Mum made me pretty frocks
|
I'm still holding back moving for a while. As Julian has outlined, there are so many changes to make to various web pages, statscounter, etc. that it seems a lot of work for a temporary solution especially when one's time is precious. I think I'd rather use the time to write some more stories for it.
I still want my site to remain on Rootschat so will hold back for a bit longer.

No it's not - there was a thread about it a while ago. MarieC uses it although a different server for her website and her counter has stopped. I've always used: http://www.statcounter.com/You get some good stats with this site as well. Gadget It looks as though my hits are being recorded by statcounter - someone has accessed my temporary 110MB site from this thread [thank you ], and this has shown up on my statcounter recent visitors log. Looks like my google analytics is returning data too.
I used a rootschat counter, so don't know if the statcounter "counter" works - I must admit I don't want the fag of changing the code as I anticipate (hope?) this 110MB site is only going to be temporary

Well I'm going to hold fire, sit back and watch your experiences and as Gadget says use the time to write some more stories and wait for an update from T&S before I make any decisions. But it is interesting to hear of experiences of websites outside the RC experience.
Now what shall I call the next page - 'James and his merry wives'

Several of the free sites I have used in the past have now changed and stopped offering free space, or slapped on giant ads. I used to use freewebs at one point, but if I remember correctly, I think they had a limit of 50 files.
I currently use NearlyFreeSpeech. It's different to most places. Most charge monthly, and if you don't use a lot of it, it all goes to waste. Think of it like a Pay as you Go website: You pay for the space you use, and the bandwidth that your viewers use. I set it up as a parallel site for my family history. I haven't actually opened it for viewing, but may have to. However I'd rather not have to change at all. Rootschat is great, but soon people will start wondering where my site has gone.

Just as a matter of interest can someone remind me what is the space limit on Rootschat?

It is unusual to be kept in the dark, and my only emotion is deep concern - I hope all is well the our hosts.
