Hi All
I hope someone can help me on this. I am looking for an Edith Emily Burton, born abt 1868 in Wiltshire. Well, that's what it said on her Census Records in 1891 and 1901 for the place she was born. She might just be down as ...Edith Burton, which is more likely, but not sure.
Her father's name was William John Burton, which is noted down on her wedding certifcate, although he was deceased at the time. I do not know the name of her mother, which makes it even harder to find her.
She got married at the age of 20 in 1887 to William Jarvis and then remained in the Acton area of London thereafter where she had 6 children....one of them being my Grandfather. (My Dad's Dad)
I have tried for so long to find her correct birth records, but with no joy as to something exact, I hope someone can help me further
Thankyou in advance

Hi,
A big welcome to RootsChat
MMM She is not being terribly helpful in the census is she, with birth simply listed as Wiltshire in 1891 and 1901. There is an Edith Amma BURDEN but father is wrong. Does the cert and signature clearly say BURTON? What was Edith's dad occupation on the marriage certificate? The only one I can spot is Edith Emily Jane BARTRAM. (Mar 1868 Bradford W 5a 124) Dad John is a Chelsea Pensioner in 1871 and a Pensioner and Masons Lab in 1881 in Bradford (Mum is Priscilla)
Cheers Kris

Oops I am Sorry - I should have looked further before I posted. I thought I may have been onto something if the name on the cert was a little unclear, but its not her - this Emily married in Bradford W 1888

That's ok, thankyou for your help anyway!!!
And cheers for the welcome!
You mentioned the Fathers occupation, well, it doesn't show that on the Marriage Certificate.

Have you seen the Emily Burton, born Langport, Somerset, 1866.
If the family moved soon after she was born she may not have known her true place of birth, and two years off for vanity seems quite mild when compared to some of the fiction which ages obviously represent.

Thanks Elizabeth
That could well be a possibility, not seen that one before and it does kind of reach her age range over the years. Thankyou for that.
It's hard working it out, but I forgot to mention before, she died on 11th April 1941 aged 74. But it's frustrating, because I don't know what month she was born, it's hard to narrow it down even more.
