Daniel Barber
« on: Tuesday 11 January 05 21:36 GMT (UK) »

Hi - I am trying to find the family of Daniel Barber, born Wincle about 1859.  I have managed to trace him on 1891 and 1901 census, but nothing earlier. Can anyone help please?
Regards

Hello!
There is a Daniel Barber aged 10 on the 1871 census born in Heaton, Staffs. Heaton is very close to Wincle, and I have come across ancestors saying that they were born in Wincle on one census, then in Meerbrook the next, for example.
Also, the age seems slightly out. Do you have any other family members at all, to help confirm this?

Hello - I hope he is the one!  The 1891 census states he was born in Shawbank Staffs and the 1901 census shows Wincle.  No other information to hand.  Do you have details of the other people in the household?
Thanks so much for your time.
Regards.

Hello again,
I'm reasonably local to the area but I have never heard of Shawbank. Anyway, here is the family, living in Heaton:
James Barber 57 born Goostrey
Mary Barber 53 born Somerfort Booth
William Barber (son) 24 born Heaton
Joseph Barber (son) 17 born Heaton
Daniel Barber (son) 10 born Heaton
Mary Elizabeth Hays (daur) (mar) 19 born Heaton
Anne Eliza Barber (daur) 7 born Heaton

The slight age difference does make me wonder whether he's the same one - he's 32 and 42 on the other censuses, isn't he? But I suppose you never know...

Hi - brilliant, thanks. Some of the names are family names, it will give me something to work at and your local knowledge of the area is much appreciated. Smiley

Hello - I forgot to ask if you could give the address the Barber family were living at when the 1871 census was taken? There are a lot of them in the area, finding it hard to sort them, but it's good to have something to work with.  This site is so good.

Thanks again for your help.
