Why can't I find Annie Morton.
« on: Tuesday 11 January 05 22:08 UTC (UK) »

Annie Morton married Joseph Foley in West Bromwich in 1883.

She was born in 1865 in West bromwich South West (certificate on the way) but ... I can't track her down on the 1871 or 1881 census.

What might I be missing?

Many thanks in advance for any help or pointers.

Best Wishes
David

The most obvious suggestion is Mis-indexing.

Next comes marriage/re-marriage of mother after Annie's birth and she was raised under a step-father's name. Best bet is likely to be searching the 1881 census by the address on the marriage certificate (unless its 'Of this Parish') and the same for 1861/1871. (but using birth cert address).

She could be using the name Ann, or Anne or Annie. Using all 3 of those with Morton gives many possibilities. As Pauline and Pam have pointed out, the marriage certificate will tell you lots Cool
