Sorry I was not clear about the separate households! The two households for Edward would be great thanks Wozzle as his Uncle Edward seems to give varying birthdates of 10 years, so maybe he follows his namesake! Many thanks both

Thanks Wozzle, The gunmaker seems the most likely as this couple are in High St, Southampton in 1881 (close to Ed's family who were outfitters & toydealers) but I can see on the ancestry index that there is an Edward Cox bn 1843 Hampshire living in Hampshire in 1891, so I need to check him out. If anyone has access to the ancestry site I would be grateful for that detail. I need to find him listed with some family members. Perhaps 1851 or 1871. His parents married in Sep qtr 1842. Many thanks Kay

His parents are James & Catherine nee Prior. He had siblings Hester, James, Phoebe, Rbt, Alice, Catherine & Margaret Ann. James died 1876, Catherine 1886. No I'm not sure now about the policeman will check again - I'm totally confused!

You are right of course. I've been going round in circles for so long I must be seeing double! But if he isn't the 18 year old scholar in Kent in 1861 (I assume that's the policeman?), where is he in 1841, 51, 61 & 71!!! James & Catherine (who always appear as Cocks) seem to be quite 'well to do' to be having a child 3 years before marriage , then waiting 3 years after marriage to have a 2nd child. Unless of course James adopted Edward. Shall I give up???
