I wonder if anyone could suppy  names & locations for orphanages in Swindon  which would have existed around 1889-1900.   Many thanks in anticipation.... Smiley

not sure bout orphanage but aunts were put in the work house when their mum went to jail, based in highworth nr swindon

Hi Octavia,

Have a look at this;
http://www.institutions.org.uk/workhouses/england/wilts/highworth_workhouse.htm.

Until the Stratton St. Margaret Workhouse was finally demolished around 10-15 years ago, it was a hospital for the elderly. It was situated adjacent to the Stratton Fire Station on the eastern side of the town.
