Fairhallor Fairall
« on: Monday 10 March 08 22:31 GMT (UK) »

Would like to try and find some information on the family of Thomas Fairall and Maud nee Twigg. I found the family on the 1901 census, with Thomas listed as a Police Officer and were living at Station Road, Hammersmith. The chidren on the census wereThomas, 6. Louise or Louisa 3 and Ernest 6 or 8 months.
I did find a marriage of a Louise Fairhall marryinig an Albert Walters in A/j Qtr 1924, but don't know for sure if it is the right one. I haven't been able to find anything on either of the males.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Bev

Hi

Given the ages of the children in 1901, Thomas could have married anytime from 1924 onwards and Ernest from 1921

Have you only looked at the partially transcribed index on freebmd?   Transcriptions for those years are very thin on the ground  so you will need to search the full GRO index  which is available at your nearest main library if you live in the UK.  It can also be searched online if you have an Ancestry subscription or at www.findmypast.com which is a paysite

I think it's a fairly safe bet it's the right one as there was no other Louise Fairhall on the 1901 and no birth on freebmd after 1901

As Louise marriage reg was St Pancras - is this a possibility for Thomas

Thomas W Fairhall / Leah J Smith
September qtr 1915   St Pancras   Volume: 1b  Page: 202

The only thing that bothers me with both Louise & Thomas is that surname is Fairhall

When parents Thomas & Maud married - surname was Fairall

I was just looking at birth reg's carole - and found the best possibility for Thomas' birth was in the name of Thomas Walter R Fairall
So the marriage you have found may be a possiblity
and Ernest was possibly Ernest George??? (Think Ernest was 3mths old on 1901 census?

Didn't find a birth reg for Louisa

Bev-do you know if they had middle names?

Dear Suz,
Many thanks for your reply. Yes, they did have middle names, Louisa/Louise was Maude and her birth was registered at Wandsworth A/J 1898, Thomas was Thomas Walter R Wandsworth A/J 1895, and Ernest George, Fulham J/M 1901. Guess the different spelliing of Fairhall/Fairall could be the way the transcribers thought it should be spelt. I will send for both the certificates as soon as I can. I live in Aus so it is difficult to get to the GRO, so have to rely on wonderful people like yourself and the free BMD to find the names I am after.
Many thanks Bev

Why not have the GRO come to you via your PC?

Did you know that it can be searched online if you have an Ancestry subscription or at www.findmypast.com which is a paysite.  That's the full index - not just the partially transcribed one known as freebmd
