Hi

Quote
he was married to Alice Ferguson in 1905 in Stirling

What were his parents names on his marriage certificate and how old was he when he married in 1905

There is a Ronald Robertson aged 8 on the 1891 census for Sussex.  He was  b Stratford Essex and living with grandparents Richard and Mary Ann Dean
There is also a Queenie Robertson aged 4 b Edmonton M'sex who may be his sister living in the household

Births Sep 1886

Robertson  Gertrude Queenie E     Edmonton  3a 366

There is also an 1891 entry indexed as Ronald B aged 7 b Hampstead parents James & Maggie (James was a bank manager b Scotland)

However - I checked freebmd and there is a Ronald Douglas Robertson b Hampstead

There is no Ronald Richard Robertson on freebmd

Hi

If you had already found the 1891 details and already knew his grandparents names - that info should have been included in your post to save people wasting time looking for it

Is he shown as deceased on his son's marriage cert.

Hi

As Ronald Robertson was a Lance Corporal with the Sutherland Highlanders it might be worth while contacting the Museum of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, which is based in Stirling Castle. Their website is http://www.argylls.co.uk/museum.htm and there is a 'Contact and Enquiries' link on the menu on the left hand side.

If they don't have any information about him they will be able to tell you who to contact instead.

Best wishes
