Can you help me make that leap of faith??
« on: Thursday 13 March 08 19:06 GMT (UK) »

Hi,

I think I'm right, but would appreciate some thoughts.

I have Joseph Prior who in all census says he was born c1823 in Appleford, Berks. There is no Joseph baptised in Appleford, although there is a Joseph baptised in Sutton Courtenay in 1823, son of Rose Prior.

Rose also has several children baptsied in Appleford.

In 1841, Roseta Pryor is living in Sutton Courney with:-
Eliza, 20
Sarah, 15
John, 15
Stephen, 5

(Sarah and John are both baptised in Appleford in 1826 and 1824)

Just below them is:-
Joseph, 15
Henry, 78

Not sure if this is the same household?

There is a Rose Prior baptised in Appleford in 1798, daughter of Henry and Sarah.

Given Henry is with Joseph in 1841, do you think that Henry is Joseph's grandfather, which would fit with everything else.

Does this sound logical to anyone, or has this family history lark finally sent me bonkers?? (hubby thinks the latter!!!)

Many thanks
Paula

it sounds quite logical to me also they are living in the same house
// signifies the household
/signifies living in the same house but seperately
i believe this is correct
if it is not then i am sure some other rootschatter will put me right.

Hi Paula and Wozzle

Yes, I agree with you Wozzle, the marks are as you say; also at the bottom of the page there are 6 inhabited dwellings, so it looks like Joseph and Henry are in the same building.

Incidently, there are Pryors next door as well!  John and Harriet, and some children.  Are they relatives too?

Kind regards
Gaie

Thank you both for your help. You know sometimes you just lose confidence, and need a boost!!

The Priors next door are also relatives.

And thanks for the info regarding the households on the census. You learn something new every day.

Thanks again
